The last time the Leafs were in town, they watched chaos unfold from their locked-down hotel rooms as police swarmed Ottawa’s streets in search of maybe one, maybe three gunmen.
It was Oct. 22, and Corporal Nathan Cirillo had been shot dead at the National War Memorial.
The game that night at the Canadian Tire Centre was cancelled, eventually rescheduled for Sunday night.
To pay tribute, both teams gathered Sunday to show their respects for the fallen. Leafs’ captain Dion Phaneuf and Sens’ captain Erik Karlsson led the way, laying wreaths.
