Ottawa –Mayor Jim Watson joined Greg Stremlaw, Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Curling Association, today to announce that the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier will be held in Ottawa. This event, which will take place March 5 to 13 at TD Place Arena, brings together the best men’s curlers from across Canada to compete for the national championship.

“The Tim Hortons Brier represents another big win for our Bid More, Host More, Win More strategy,” said Mayor Watson. “This event will generate at least $15 million for the local economy while offering fans nine days of the best curling in the world.”

“Ottawa has shown that it has the enthusiasm, the experience and the facilities we are looking for, and it is a great curling town,” said Greg Stremlaw. “The Canadian Curling Association is excited to bring the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier to Ottawa and the new Lansdowne.”

This national event has been brought to the City through the Bid More, Win More, Host More program, which is attracting world-class events to Ottawa as a means of promoting economic prosperity and growth. As a central component of the City’s Economic Development Strategy, the combination of bids won and events hosted has resulted in close to $42 million for Ottawa’s economy. Future events that have been confirmed, including the Brier and FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada, will result in up to an additional $37 million in local economic benefits.
