Several residents at a rural youth group home were forced from their lodgings late Sunday afternoon by a mattress fire in the building’s basement.
Ottawa firefighters were called to 1662 Peter Robinson Rd., near the intersection of March Road, at about 5 p.m. in response to a report of a fire in the basement.
The firefighters ensured the fire did not spread beyond some charring to a wall. The rest of the building was not affected. Nonetheless, six residents and two supervisors were displaced for the night, fire officials said.
The reason of the fire, which caused about $20,000 in damage, is under investigation.
