Ottawa – The City congratulated 48 Ottawa residents tonight during the inaugural Snow Angels Recognition Event held at Centrepointe Studio Theatre. A Snow Angel is a neighbour or friend who has volunteered to help someone who is elderly or has a disability, to improve their accessibility during the winter by clearing snow or ice from their driveway, steps or walkway.

“The Snow Angels program is all about neighbours helping neighbours,” said Mayor Jim Watson. “Ottawa is bursting at the seams with volunteers and tonight is an opportunity to recognize the volunteers from last winter, for their generosity, and to begin this winter season with a great big thank you.”

Each Snow Angel was presented with a certificate signed by the Mayor as well as a custom keychain with a snowflake symbol and City of Ottawa logo.

“There are several ways the City of Ottawa does its part to make the city safer and manageable in winter,” said Councillor Keith Egli, Chair of the City’s Transportation Committee. “We want to thank all the Snow Angels for also doing their part.”
