A 29-year veteran of the Ontario Provincial Police has been charged with sexual assault in Bancroft, about 200 kilometres west of Ottawa.
Police say the investigation began Monday and the officer was charged Wednesday.
The officer, 50, was released on a promise to appear in court Jan. 13.
The officer, who is not being identified to protect the identity of the victim, is suspended from duty with pay, according to the provisions of the Police Services Act.
