A fire at a yet-to-be-opened bar in Barrhaven caused an estimated $50,000 damage on Friday evening.
Firefighters received a 911 call at 7:10 p.m. reporting smoke at the Heart and Crown pub on Strandherd Drive, just west of Woodroffe Avenue.
The bar hasn’t yet opened to the public; fire officials said it’s an empty building that’s under renovation.
When fire crews arrived, there was “heavy smoke and flames” inside, Ottawa Fire said in a release. Fire crews declared a working fire at 7:20 p.m. and had the blaze under control just after 7:30 p.m.
There were no injuries. The cause of the fire was unknown as of 8 p.m. Friday night.
The Heart and Crown has two existing locations, one in the ByWard Market and the other on Preston Street in Little Italy.
