After a controversial election campaign, which saw established Ottawa Catholic School Board trustee Andrea Steenbakkers abandon her candidacy mid-campaign, runner-up Spencer Warren has been appointed as Catholic board trustee in Zone 4.
Steenbakkers won the seat on the Catholic board despite stepping down from the October election race in the middle of the campaign, well past the date to officially withdraw from the vote.
She refused to take the post, even though she was elected. Warren finished second to Steenbakkers and was sworn in to the post during a special board meeting on Thursday.
The appointment of Warren to the board means the Ottawa Catholic School Board will not need to hold a byelection to fill the seat.
