Police are investigating at least six incidents this month in which a man led senior citizens to believe he was a police officer, then stole money from them.
Police said the man approached elderly people and identified himself verbally as a police officer, or said things that would lead them to believe he was one. He wasn’t in uniform.
The man stole money from the victims and fled the area, police said.
The six incidents occurred between Dec. 10 and Dec. 23 on Rideau Street between Cumberland and Charlotte streets.
Police described the suspect as a six-foot-tall white man between 50 and 60 years old, with a medium build and white wavy hair. He often wears a “poor boy” hat, is well-dressed and speaks English.
Anybody with information is asked to contact the Central District Investigators at 613-236-1222 extension 5166 or Crime Stoppers.
