A 66-year-old man is expected to appear in court Christmas Day after being charged with stealing from the elderly and impersonating a police officer.
Adrian McQuade, of no fixed address, is alleged to have approached elderly people in the street and identified himself as a police officer. He would then take money from them and flee. He did not wear a police uniform.
Ottawa police said there were at least six different incidents of these thefts between Dec. 10 and 23 on Rideau Street between Cumberland and Charlotte streets.

- two counts of robbery
- two counts of theft not exceeding $5,000
