High winds on Christmas Day blew a large pane of glass from a downtown office building.

The pane of glass fell from the Export Development Canada building at 150 Slater St. and smashed onto the street, police said.

There were no injuries, but police asked the public to avoid the area Thursday afternoon until city staff were able to clean up the shattered glass.

Export Development Canada had looked at the window pane about three weeks ago, but police say it wasn’t fixed properly.

In 2012, a window pane fell from a 10th-storey balcony at a condo at Bank Street and Laurier Avenue. One bystander suffered a small cut to the hand from the incident.

In 2006, high winds blew out a 26th-floor window in what was then the Crowne Plaza hotel on Albert Street. There were no injuries in that incident.
