Two shootings in Ottawa on Monday have left two men injured, police say, with the latest incident happening on a residential street in west Ottawa.
The second shooting — the city's 48th of the year — happened at about 4:50 p.m. Monday on Bloomsbury Crescent, near Pinecrest Park off Woodroffe Avenue and Baseline Road.
Police said one man approaching 20 years old was shot on the road after multiple bullets were fired. Residents in the area told CBC News they heard anywhere from seven to 10 shots or more.
The victim was conscious and breathing when he arrived at hospital, police said. There was no word on his condition.
No arrests had yet been made as of 5:30 p.m., police said.
Monday's 1st shooting happened downtown
The first shooting happened at about 2:30 a.m. Monday on downtown Bank Street, near Slater Street, when a man approached the victim from the street and shot him in the back. Three shots were fired.
The victim got into a taxi cab and was taken to hospital, where he was treated for a bullet wound. He was in stable condition, according to police.
Police said the victim is well known to police and is a member of a gang.
Police are also investigating whether the victim was in a nearby nightclub before the shooting, but Acting Staff Sgt. Ken Bryden said the business is not being very co-operative with police.
No arrests had yet been made as of Monday afternoon.
