As of Thursday morning, it’s clear skating on the Rideau Canal.
The National Capital Commission says the full 7.8 kilometres of what is billed as the world’s largest rink will be open from downtown Ottawa to Hartwells Locks, which adjoin Carleton University.
The canal has been opening in stages since Jan. 10. The final stage is 3.2 kilometres long.
Now in its 45th season, the canal is generally open to skaters for about 51 days. During last year’s long winter it ran for 71 days. The record, 90 days, was set in 1971-72.
