Renfrew OPP are on the hunt for a man who allegedly assaulted a woman and then pursued her in a vehicle when she tried to flee in hers.

On Saturday, at about 8 p.m., a woman in a car flagged down an approaching Ontario Provincial Police patrol car on Williams Street in Arnprior. Close behind her, apparently following her, was a black Dodge Ram pickup truck.

When the police officer stopped the woman rolled down her window and told the office she had been assaulted and her attacker was in the truck behind her, OPP spokeswoman Const. Janice Sawbridge said Monday.

The officer flipped on his emergency flashers, but the driver in the truck apparently decided he wasn’t going to stick around for any questions. He turned his vehicle around and sped away, but not before the officer got the licence plate — Ontario licence AC38867.

Police have been looking for the man ever since and on Monday issued a warrant for his arrest, appealing to the public for help in finding him. They believe the man may be armed. Anyone who sees him or his 2013 Dodge Ram should not approach. Instead, people are advised to call 911.

Jason Smith, 33, of Renfrew, is wanted on various Criminal Code charges, including careless use of a firearm, two counts of dangerous operations of a vehicle, flight from police and assault.
