At approximately 14:00 hrs a member of the OPP
K-9 unit recovered the body of a female. At this time
efforts are underway to confirm identification.
The Ottawa Police Service is seeking the public’s
assistance in identifying a suspect in the disappearance
of Ardeth Wood. The Ottawa Police received numerous tips
in regards to a ‘’person of interest’’ since public
assistance was requested last Thursday.
Today, the Police are asking for assistance in identifying
a white male who is a suspect in the disappearance of Miss
Wood. We believe her disappearance may involve foul play.
This suspect is a white male in his early twenties,
approximately 5’11’’. He has sandy colored hair, muscular
lean build and is well tanned. At the time he was seen,
he was wearing black shorts and a gray t-shirt, some
reported him without a shirt. (NOTE: The suspect may have
changed his appearance since last Wednesday). Witnesses
have reported seeing a male fitting this description in
the general area where the bicycle was found. Information
received indicates that the suspect may have been trying
to engage in conversations with females.
We are hopeful that someone in the community will
recognize the description and be able to provide the name
of this individual. The Ottawa Police wish to remind the
public to exercise vigilance when walking or cycling along
the bicycle paths. If you see something that appears to
be unusual, do not hesitate to report it to the Police.
Safety tips for the Public:
Whether you are walking, driving or cycling, always
determine the safest route of travel. Avoid dark or
isolated places - take the longer route if it is safest.
Inform others when and where you are going and check with
them when you reach your destination.
Carry a cellular telephone.
If you suspect you are being followed, head immediately to
the nearest well-lit or populated area, if people are
within hearing distance, turn to the person and say in a
loud voice “stop following me!”
Try to remember points of identification about the
suspect, for example, complexion, body build, height,
weight, age or clothing.
If an attacker is only after your purse or other
valuables, don’t resist. Throw your purse or belongings
away from yourself to put distance between you and the
attacker.
Contact police immediately or as soon as possible.
