Five people have been charged, and a loaded handgun and crack cocaine seized in a police raid on a Draper Avenue apartment.

Police said Wednesday that the raid took place on Friday, in a highrise at 2600 Draper Ave., near Pinecrest and Baseline roads. The raid by the drug squad followed a weeklong investigation of people known to the police guns and gangs unit and a residence police suspected was being used for drug trafficking.

Police seized a Turkish-made Girsan Yavuz 9-mm handgun and 10 rounds of ammunition, along with 45.6 grams of crack cocaine, four grams of cocaine and 10.5 grams of marijuana. Nearly $3,200 in cash was also seized.

“Forty-five grams is a fairly substantial amount of crack,” said Acting Staff Sgt. Ian McDonnell of the drug unit.

The raid, which took place at about 11:30 p.m., was the second of the day for the squad, which had earlier raided a drug house in Vanier, McDonnell said.

Haider Affat, 26, Grace M’Pemo, 18, Richard Wallace, 31, James Gerrior, 46, and Margaret Gerrior, 45, were all charged with drug possession and possession for the purposes of trafficking, along with various weapons charges, including possession and careless storage of a firearm.

Affat and M’Pemo were also charged with possessing ammunition while prohibited and possession of the proceeds of crime. Wallace was charged with possession of marijuana and violating undertakings. Police said Wallace is in Canada illegally and was placed on an immigration hold for the Canadian Border Services Agency.

Siblings James and Margaret Herrior were to appear in court on Thursday. Wallace was to appear on Friday. Affat and M’Pemo were scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
