A 40-year-old man is dead after his dump truck struck a highway overpass in Gatineau early Sunday.
Police were called to the scene at around 4:30 a.m. near the Hautes Plaines exit on Hwy. 5 for a single-vehicle collision involving a truck.
According to Sûreté du Québec spokesman Sgt. Claude Denis, a dump truck hit the bottom of the overpass and the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were conducting an investigation of the overpass, as well as as a mechanical inspection of the truck.
The area around the Hautes Plaines exit was closed for several hours, but re-opened before noon.
