The National Capital Commission is warning hikers, snowshoers, cross-country skiers and farmers to take extra caution when they go into the woods.
There have been reports of a coyote being spotted on Woodroffe Avenue South in the Greenbelt, the NCC said in statement Sunday.
Hikers and outdoor enthusiasts are to stay on official trails and ensure all dogs are on leashes.
Farmers are also urged to increase security measures relating to animals, livestock and pets, and to keep animals indoors throughout the night.
The NCC will continue to monitor the situation, but anyone who spots a coyote is urged to contact the NCC emergency line at 613-239-5353.
