Gatineau Police hope the public can help identify four suspects with a taste for brand-name clothing that were involved in a number of cellphone thefts totalling more than $100,000 in stolen items.
The thefts by a group of “well-organized” individuals have been occurring at shopping centres since early December, police say. They target booths specializing in the sale of cellphones and steal as many unactivated phones as they can before the booths open for the day.
Police say their investigation suggests the group’s activity isn’t limited to Gatineau, but may have occurred in other cities in Quebec and Ontario.
The first suspect is described as a white man, last seen wearing a black jacket with a felt collar over an insulated grey coat. He also had black gloves that sported a “North Face” logo, Levi’s brand blue jeans, a grey belt with a white “Energy” logo, and black shoes or short boots.
The second man is also white. He was seen wearing a black cap with a red and blue logo on the visor, a black jacket with a North Face logo, Levi’s jeans, a brown leather belt, black gloves with a small white logo and black shoes or short boots.
The third suspect could be a white man or woman. That suspect was wearing a black toque with an Oakley logo and prescription glasses, a black insulated “Canada Goose” coat with a hood, dark pants and black gloves with a North Face logo.
The final suspect is described as another white male with short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a grey aviator-style Canada Goose jacket with a hood and fur trim. He wore blue jeans, black gloves with a Nike logo and black shoes or short boots.
Police did not release any of the suspects’ physical attributes or other information that may help the public identify the suspects.
Anyone with any information about the suspects or any other aspect of this investigation is asked to contact detective sergeant Dominic Simard at 819-243-2345, ext. 6238.
