A young man has been charged with sexual assault after someone entered several rooms at a University of Ottawa student residence early Sunday, police said.
University security staff were called after a man was seen going from room to room, trying to get into each room. They found someone who matched the description on the fourth floor of Stanton Residence, at 100 University Private, and police arrested him there.
Police said the man tried 50 doors and succeeded in getting into eight rooms.
He is charged with one count each of sex assault and breaking and entering. The suspect can’t be named because he is under the age of 18.
Stanton is a 361-bed tower adjoining other student residences. It houses both male and female first-year students from September through April.
University officials weren’t immediately available to answer questions about security on Monday, as offices were closed for Family Day.
