The man accused of impersonating a Canadian soldier at a Remembrance Day ceremony in Ottawa has pleaded guilty to some of the charges against him.
Franck Gervais appeared in an Ottawa court Wednesday, where he pleaded guilty to unlawfully wearing a military uniform and medals. The impersonation charges will be withdrawn, court heard.
Gervais, who lives in Cantley, Que., just north of Ottawa, was charged after being interviewed by media on Remembrance Day near the National War Memorial, at which point he identified himself as a member of the military, and was dressed in military uniform.
Members of the Canadian Forces quickly noticed problems with his attire and the medals he was wearing, prompting a flurry of scrutiny and eventually the criminal charges.
More to come . . .
