Although it’s been almost 50 years since he graduated from the University of Ottawa, alumnus Camille Villeneuve’s latest gift to his alma mater ensures his legacy will live on for some time.

The University of Ottawa announced on Thursday that Villeneuve, president of Outaouais development company Multivesco, has donated another $1.5 million uOttawa’s business institution, The Telfer School of Management.

“We are profoundly grateful to Mr. Villeneuve for his generous gift,” said Allan Rock, president and vice-chancellor of uOttawa. “This investment will help to enhance one of our strategic priorities, the student experience, by providing Telfer students with the means to make a difference in our community and beyond.”

The funds will offer $350,000 to the existing Camille Villeneuve Student Activity Fund, which provides financial support for students who are representing the university at hosted events, such as academic conferences, seminars or workshops. Villeneuve will also provide $350,000 to the new Camille Villeneuve Fund for Entrepreneurship, which will help support students with enterprise startups and link them to other entrepreneurs.

Another $1 million will go to any other priorities chosen by Telfer in the future.

“I started university with a firm belief that I would succeed in business,” said Villeneuve, who earned LEED platinum certification last year for a construction project. “And as far as that goes, I can say without hesitation that the University of Ottawa gave me the theoretical knowledge needed to succeed, but that it also enabled me to build a network of contacts that was decisive throughout my more than 40 year career. That’s why it seemed completely natural for me to reaffirm my sense of belonging to the University of Ottawa as a donor, in support of its pursuit of excellence.”

So far, Villeneuve has donated nearly $1.85 million to The Telfer School of Management, which named its multi-purpose event room in DMS 4101 in honour of him.
