Easter is nearly upon us, but there’s no need to put your snowshoes and cross-country skis away just yet.
The National Capital Commission says its winter trails in Gatineau Park will stay open until Monday, April 6 — weather permitting — a week later than the usual closing day of March 31.
The fresh snow and continuing cold temperatures has lengthened the season, which began on Dec. 11. Over the 99-day season, the NCC sold more than 7,300 season ski passes, a 13 per cent increase from the year before. Another 900 snowshoe passes were sold in the first year the NCC began charging snowshoers to use the trail system.
Grooming and volunteer ski patrols will continue through until the closing date, the NCC says.
