Ottawa – Mayor Jim Watson honoured the Carleton University Ravens men’s basketball team today at an informal breakfast at City Hall.
On March 15, the Carleton Ravens won their fifth consecutive national Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) championship. In the last 13 years, the team has won 11 national championships, more than any other university in history.
“Thanks to the outstanding men’s program at Carleton University, sports fans from across Canada associate Ottawa with basketball excellence,” said Mayor Watson. “Even a single national championship is gratifying. With eleven championships in 13 years we are overflowing with pride.”
During this morning’s breakfast, the mayor presented each player present with a certificate and read a proclamation declaring today, March 31, 2015, Carleton Ravens Men’s Basketball Team Day in the City of Ottawa.
“This is an exciting time to be a sports fan in Ottawa,” Mayor Watson said. “The Redblacks and Fury return for their second seasons this summer, the Champions take to the diamond this spring, and in a few months, Ottawa is a host city of FIFA Women’s World Cup.”
