THE OTTAWA ORCHID SHOW
ORCHID DISPLAYS- ART GALLERY- ORCHID VENDORS
On April 18-19, 2015 the Ottawa Orchid Society will be holding its 34th annual Orchid Show and Sale at the Nepean Sportsplex, 1701 Woodroffe Avenue, Nepean K2J 2H9.
This is a magnificent show with more than 35 exhibits and over 600 blooming orchids for the general public and orchid aficionados to enjoy up close. The orchid theme is carried into Japanese flower arrangements called Ikebana which create a soothing and serene mood and orchid floral arrangements by local florists. There is something for everyone: stunning and exotic orchid displays in every shape and size, an art gallery with orchid paintings, photographs and crafts made by local artists, educational exhibits, cultural advice and tours by society members, and over 25 vendors selling high quality plants and growing supplies. An "orchid doctor" booth will provide advice and growing tips to the public on how to care for orchids purchased at the Show or already in home collections.
One special feature this year will be the presence of orchid vendors from Taiwan who will be selling many new and exciting orchids. Taiwan is a world leader in orchid breeding and will be bringing cattleyas, the new miniature Phalaenopsis as well as many different species not available in local stores. Taiwan orchid growers have won many international awards for the quality and beauty of their orchids and their plants are sure to please Ottawa growers.
