It was a stroll in the park that went all wrong, police say.
At around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, a 64-year-old Pontiac man was “surprised” by police in Gatineau Park while trying to drive over a snowbank, according to MRC des Collines police.
The man, accompanied by his 34-year-old son, was trying to reach a parking lot that’s closed during the winter months, police said.
He told police in French that he was “going to watch the deer and wild turkeys for hunting.”
The officer, who stopped the man on Eardley-Masham Road, “quickly noticed” that he was showing signs of intoxication. The man was arrested on the spot after failing a roadside alcohol test.
At the police station, the man’s blood-alcohol level registered at nearly twice the legal limit, police said.
The man’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded. The man, whom police did not name, is set to appear in court in July.
