With the Senators about to begin the playoffs with a big thanks to Andrew Hammond, aka Hammy, aka the Hamburglar, a few Ottawa burger joints have created some signature menu items in tribute to the goaltender.
Burgers n’Fries Forever
The Hammond Burger debuted Monday as a featured burger of the week at Burger n’Fries Forever on Bank Street near Gilmour Street.
“The Sens are red hot. We went with something spicy,” explained co-owner Jamil Bhuya.
The burger consists of a beef patty topped with sriracha mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, smoked Gouda, red onions and beef “bacon,” he said. The eatery does not serve pork and its local, grass-fed beef is approved under Islamic halal guidelines.
The burger will be available as long as the Senators are playing, Bhuya expects.

The King Eddy’s Bacon, Egg and Cheese Burglar was a natural, says founder and Sens fan Samantha Thompson.
The King Eddy
At the family-owned King Eddy on Clarence Street, the decision to create a burger to celebrate the Sens’ success was a mutual one, said Samantha Thompson, one of the founders.
“My family and I always talked about opening up a burger joint and being Ottawa-born-and-raised Sens fans, we figured why not participate in the playoffs season,” she said.
The tribute burger, unofficially called the Bacon, Egg and Cheese Burglar, is a freshly made patty topped simply with American cheddar and bacon. Additional toppings are available if customers wish.
The burger itself is $9 and will be available throughout the entire time the team is in the playoffs.

When you have a hot goalie, you go with a hot tribute. The Hintonburger’s Hammondburger is topped with chilly.
Hintonburger
Hintonburger on Wellington Street West got an early start with the Hammondburger, a four-ounce patty with cheddar cheese and chilly on top that debuted two weeks ago.
According to co-owner Tom Williams, the restaurant has sold nearly 200 of the special burgers.
“It’s kind of near to watch them selling more, I guess maybe as the word gets out or as people see it,” said Williams.
The $9 Hammondburger will be available for the duration of the Sens playoff season, Williams said.
