Students and staff of Charles H. Hulse Public School will be relocated to the Parkwood Hills Public School, effective Wednesday, the Ottawa Carleton District School Board said Tuesday.

The school board closed the Alta Vista neighbourhood school on Friday over lingering odours and complaints that students and staff suffered flu-like symptoms after a pesticide was applied to rid the school of a cockroach infestation. Weekend community events were cancelled and classes remained suspended on Monday and Tuesday while the building was ventilated, but the odour persisted, OCDSB spokeswoman Charlene Hunter said in a news release.

The childcare program, including the extended day program, operated by Andrew Fleck Childcare Services, has been relocated to Alta Vista Public School on Randall Avenue until further notice.

Ottawa Public Health and its partner agencies are investigating the cause of these symptoms, the board said.
