A 19-year-old acquaintance of Connor Stevenson is expected to be charged Friday with second-degree murder in connection with the April 14 stabbing death of the Gloucester High School teen.
Police arrested the suspect Thursday, just hours after Stevenson’s funeral. Stevenson was stabbed three times in the stairwell of the Jasmine Avenue apartment building where he lived with his mother and stepfather.
The suspect is believed to be the same man seen fleeing the building with a woman in security-camera images released by police. Police believe Stevenson was selling marijuana to the pair when he was attacked.
At his funeral Thursday, Stevenson was remembered as a devoted son and loving boyfriend who excelled at rugby and football.
His girlfriend was supported by her brothers as she told a packed church that she feels like her heart has been ripped from her chest.
Kaitlin Abbott wiped tears from her eyes as she described the nightmare she’s endured since he was killed.
Abbott said she goes to bed crying every night and wakes up every morning wishing it were a bad dream. She will never get to celebrate her birthday with Stevenson again, and no one will make her feel as special as he did, she said.
“You completed me,” Abbott said. “Nobody will ever replace you.”
About 300 people attended the funeral at Rothwell United Church.
On Thursday, police continued searching the wooded areas surrounding Jasmine Crescent for the knife believed was used to stab Stevenson. That search began in the hours immediately after the killing.
Lead investigator Sgt. Richard Dugal said police were covering ground that had yet to be searched.
