Confirmed Audi SQ7 Test Mule Spied at Nurburgring

With the new Q7 revealed in January, Audi plans an expansion of the model line that will dial up the performance quotient. Dr. Hackenberg even mentioned the car recently to press, though these latest spy photos confirm the model live and in person.
Outwardly, the lower stance and quad exhaust tips are likely production spec. It remains to be seen whether the gloss-black mesh wheels are SQ7 kit, though we’ve not seen them before on other Audi models. Like most S-models, it’s not surprising to see the Q7’s already-seen S line bumper design though with opened lower fascial elements around the foglights for improved breathing that’s likely necessary for a more aggressive engine. We expect to see an S-car specific grille and brightwork on a production model as well.
Even with all of the exterior changes, it’s what is found on the inside that truly confirms this mule as an SQ7. Like an A1 S line we spied years ago in the Audi Forum Ingolstadt, the tell that this is an SQ7 comes from the new model nomenclature badging on the instrument cluster. Lucky our spy photographer sources nabbed a few interior shots. A sharp eye will also note an uprated interior with more sporting seats.
So what powertrain will the car have. Hackenberg mentioned an SQ7 TDI, which would follow in the lead already set by the SQ5 TDI. Rumors have suggested it’ll use the 3.0 TDI, perhaps with electric turbo. If the USA gets the SQ7, then perhaps we’ll also see a 4.0 TFSI, following the example set by the SQ5 which offers a petrol version for the USA and China but retains TDI only for Europe.
