April 26 was a good hair day for the Parkinson Society of Eastern Ontario as it held its fourth annual Cut-A-Thon for Parkinson’s.

All proceeds went to Parkinson’s as stylists from three Ottawa salons volunteered, providing wash, cut and blow dry, and sponsor Joico gave each client a large gift pack of hair products. The generous salons who volunteered their services were Boss Art Salon & Spa, Voila Coiffure & Mini Spa and Nevio’s Mane Image Hair Studio.

Shauna Quinn, special events and fundraising co-ordinator for the PSEO, signed up for a Cut-A-Thon styling, and also donated her hair to another good cause, Hair Donation Ottawa, which was holding an event at Algonquin College the same day.

Hair Donation Ottawa is an annual, non-profit, cancer research fundraiser where people raise pledges for donating their hair and/or shaving their heads.

All proceeds from the Cut-A-Thon for Parkinson’s went to the Parkinson Society of Eastern Ontario as participating salons and stylists generously donated their time and talent. All proceeds fund support services, education, advocacy and research and help the 8,000 people living with Parkinson’s in Eastern Ontario.

“The Cut-A-Thon is an opportunity for Ottawa’s top salons to gain public exposure, showcasing the salon’s community work during April Awareness month,” says Quinn. “We’ve been so grateful for the support that our salons and sponsor Joico give us for this event. Everything is donated, so that means all of the proceeds come back to helping people living with Parkinson’s. And it’s a great deal for our participants, too, and so everyone wins.”

The next fundraising event for Parkinson’s is SuperWalk in September. For more information, please see www.parkinsonsuperwalk.ca or www.parkinsons.ca.
