Two Montreal men have been arrested and charged as part of a car-theft operation that specialized in Lexus/Toyota autos stolen from residential driveways in Ottawa last year.

The investigation conducted by the Ottawa police auto theft section, in conjunction with Gatineau police, as well as sections of the RCMP and Canada Border Services Agency, found that a total of 25 vehicles, worth more than $800,000 were stolen from April to September 2014.

Six of the stolen vehicles were recovered in shipping containers at the Port in Montreal. The remaining vehicles are believed to have been shipped overseas with new vehicle numbers, and sold domestically or dismantled for parts.

Police said Erik Poulin, 34, of Montreal was charged April 9, 2015 with 23 counts of auto theft, 25 counts of possession of break-in tools and other charges. Poulin was released on conditions.

Joel Pilon, 27, of Montreal was charged Mar. 3, 2015, with 22 counts of vehicle theft, 22 counts of possession of break-in tools and other charges. Pilon pleaded guilty and was sentenced April 17 to three years in prison and fined $11,000.
