Sole Responsibility salutes the dedicated staff at Bridgehead Coffee who have been involved with Sole Responsibility volunteers since 2005, collecting gently used shoes from Ottawans to benefit those in need. Now the staff of Dymon Storage are taking over with Shoe Bank Canada and will continue the tradition.

Every spring for the past eight years, Bridgehead staff have collected shoe donations at Bridgehead coffeehouses, then sorted and packed the shoes in the warehouse for refugees in Rwanda, Chad, Lesotho, Cameroon, Djibouti, Namibia and Yemen. Kudos to The Ottawa Running Club and other donors for funding these shipments. In addition, shoes have been provided locally to Ottawa’s InnerCity Health, local track students and others in need.

This year, the baton is being passed to Shoe Bank Canada with the support of Dymon Storage. The spring collection, which runs from April 20 to May 18, is still be carried out at Bridgehead coffeehouses, along with numerous other locations in Ottawa and the surrounding area. An added benefit is that footwear can now be dropped off year-round at any Dymon Storage location, and local organizations can secure footwear for local residents in need at any time.
