Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson (Pan Am Swim Team) and Camille Berube (Para-Pan Am Swim Team) were on hand to help celebrate National Lifejacket and Swim Day on Parliament Hill on Monday, May 11, 2015, along with parliamentarians and partner organizations including the Canadian Red Cross, Lifesaving Society Canada, Scouts Canada, YMCA Canada, Swimming Canada, and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities.
Organized by MP John Weston (West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country), the event raised awareness about the importance of lifejacket use in and around the water and the effectiveness of lifejackets in drowning prevention.
In advance of the May long weekend, swimming was promoted as a life-long, healthy activity for Canadian families, while individuals were also reminded to ensure they have proper water safety knowledge for the summer months ahead.
