All three downtown, underground LRT stations will be fully integrated into buildings, bringing greater connectivity to riders, Mayor Jim Watson told an Ottawa Chamber of Commerce audience at a Wednesday breakfast meeting.

Watson, who was giving an LRT update ahead of an address by Min. Jason Kenney at City Hall, announced the city has confirmed agreements with property owners to integrate the underground stations at Lyon, Parliament and Rideau.

It was known that Rideau station was building built into the Rideau Centre — there are actually three entrances at Rideau, including one to be integrated into a future Scotiabank at an entrance to ByWard Market — but Watson confirmed Wednesday the city has come to similar understandings over the Lyon and Parliament stations.

The Lyon station’s west entrance will be integrated into a future Claridge Homes development at Lyon and Queen streets, while the east entrance will be built into the Place de Ville complex on the north side of Queen.

Parliament station’s west entrance is to be integrated into the Sun Life Financial Building, while the east entrance will be built into Morguard’s building at 155 Queen St.

It is not yet clear if property owners have committed any money for that station connections, or if the city has given the owners any concessions in the deal.

Watson also confirmed that the $2.1-billion LRT project, which is scheduled to be complete by 2018, is on time and on budget. Also, 66 per cent of the downton tunnel has already been excavated.
