Ottawa police are searching for an Ottawa man suspected of cooking up a credit card scam involving cash baked into gift cakes and other wrinkles.

Police suspect Jody Faucher, 45, of Ottawa of about 50 telephone credit card scams between February and May this year.

Police allege that Faucher targets small businesses that accept over-the-phone credit card orders.

As part of the fraud, he asks that currency be placed inside the item ordered as a special treat, such as an envelope of cash with an order of flowers, or currency to be “baked” into goods such as cakes ordered as presents.

He then picks up the item and pays using a stolen credit card.

Faucher is described as Caucasian, five feet six inches tall (168 cm), about 180 pounds (82 kg), with short dark hair. His face has acne scars.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact the Ottawa police fraud unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5433. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by downloading the Ottawa Police iOS app.
