Ottawa - Beginning on Tuesday, May 19, Higwood Drive from Wallford Way to Deer Park Road will be temporarily closed to allow for construction. The work is planned to continue until late October.
In addition, Deer Park Road from Meadowlands Drive to Greenwich Avenue will be limited to one lane northbound, with no southbound traffic past the intersection with Greenwich, from Thursday, May 21 to Tuesday, July 7.
The street and lane closures are needed to allow construction of new sanitary and storm sewers along Higwood from Wallford Way to Deer Park, and on Deer Park from Greenwich Avenue to Meadowlands Drive East, which will improve drainage in the area and reduce the risk of flooding. Portions of the watermain may need to be replaced where sewer construction has a significant impact. The roadway will also be rehabilitated as needed.
Traffic impact is expected to be low, but motorists should exercise caution in the area and follow detour signs. During the entire construction period, access will be maintained for local traffic, emergency vehicles and pedestrians. The OC Transpo stop located on Meadowlands westbound at Deer Park will be temporarily relocated.
The replacement of sewers on Higwood and Deer Park is a $5.6 million project, and part of Ottawa on the Move. Ottawa on the Move is about keeping our community and economy moving forward through strategic investments in a number of transportation, water, and sewer projects to build a better city and create jobs.
Commuters should plan ahead and check their route with the up-to-the-minute information available on the Travel and Mobility web page or the Ottawa NAV mobile app. For the most up-to-date information, please check Twitter and ottawa.ca.
