The woman accusing suspended senator Patrick Brazeau of assault and sexual assault admitted three years ago that she hit him, a witness said Tuesday.
Lorraine Rochon, Brazeau’s aide in his Senate days and still a close friend, testified that she was called to the home Brazeau once shared with the woman now accusing him in February 2012.
There had been an argument at the couple’s home that night, Rochon said. The police had come to the home and, once they left, the woman phoned Rochon.
Rochon arrived around midnight and stayed for a couple of hours.
Everyone felt badly, she testified Tuesday. She said Brazeau and the woman, who cannot be named due to a court order, both felt there had been no need for police (who were called by Brazeau’s mother: The children had phoned her in a panic, court heard.)
Rochon said the couple just wanted to make up.
“There was a lot of discussion about how beautiful life is,” she said.
Then, she said, the woman admitted hitting Brazeau.
“She apologized for having hit him,” Rochon said.
The point has been a focus of the defence because in her testimony the woman has said she never hit Brazeau.
Brazeau is accused of beating up the woman in 2013.
More to come.
