Police have issued 1,027 speeding tickets after a week-long crackdown on drivers in the Outaouais region of Quebec.

The tickets were handed out during the week of May 11 to 17.

Officers from Gatineau caught and fined a total 920 speeders. Police with the Sûreté du Québec handed out fines to 387 people caught speeding, and police with the MRC Des Collines gave out an additional 107 speeding tickets.

The blitz was part of a provincewide crackdown. Police across the province of Quebec issued more than 15,216 tickets during that week alone.

Police warn that other, similar blitzes are planned in the coming months to focus on speeding — especially within construction sites — distracted driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, as well as drinking and driving.
