It’s no secret to local residents, but Highway 105 has been voted one of the worst roads in Québec in a recent recent poll by CAA-Québec.
The road, which runs from Gatineau, where it is known as Boulevard Saint-Joseph, to Mont-Laurier and beyond, tied for 11th place with Rue de la Savane in Montréal, missing the 10th spot only by a vote.
The winding route is well-known for grisly traffic mishaps: Route 105, named ‘cent-cinq’ (105) in French, has been commonly referred to for years by the phonetically similar homonym ‘sang-cinq’ (blood five) for its bad conditions.
The province’s worst road, according to the poll, was Chemin de la Traverse, linking the town of Lac-Beauport to Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval. Boulevard Laure, in Sept Iles, and the Chemin du Lac-Bécancour, in Thetford Mines, were second and third.
CAA-Québec, affiliated with the Canadian Automobile Association said it was using the poll to give voice to its members on the critical state of road infrastructure in the province.
The group also noted the province has committed more than $16 billion towards roadwork over the next 10 years.
