The University of Ottawa men’s hockey team will be back on the ice next year after they were benched amid sexual assault allegations against two of its players, the school announced Wednesday.
The university announced Wednesday the team will be able to compete in the 2016-2017 season now that the school has implemented recommendations from the Task Force on Respect and Equality that are “aimed at creating the appropriate environment to relaunch it.”
The team was suspended in March 2014 after allegations that an alleged assault occurred in the early hours of Feb. 2 while the men’s hockey team was in Thunder Bay for two road games.
After a six-month investigation by Thunder Bay police, sexual assault charges were laid against captain David Foucher and assistant captain Guillaume Donovan. The alleged assault happened in the early hours of Feb. 2, while the men’s hockey team was in Thunder Bay for two road games.
