An Ottawa police officer once featured on recruitment posters and widely considered an ambassador for the department will find himself on the wrong side of the court room in March 2016.

Const. Jason Mallett, 43, will be entering a plea of not guilty on charges of criminal harassment — including alleged threats against a woman — careless storage of a handgun and stealing a city-owned defibrillator.

“We’ll be advancing a vigorous defence and he will be entering a plea of not guilty,” said Ottawa defence lawyer Jason Gilbert when asked about the scheduled, three-day trial.

Mallett, a former CFL football player, is suspended with pay ($130,179.33? in 2013) and is under investigation by internal affairs.

Mallett was known for his work at schools as a police resource officer. The allegations against him have not been proven in court.
