With up to 22,000 fans converging on Lansdowne Park on any given day during the FIFA Women’s World Cup, it will be important to know the ins and outs of the event.

The Ottawa soccer matches kick off on this Sunday with a double-header starting at 1 p.m. with Norway versus Thailand; and Germany against Ivory Coast at 4 p.m. and wrap up with the quarter-finals on June 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Here is what you need to know.

Q. Will there be dedicated buses taking crowds to Lansdowne?
A. Absolutely. Special OC Transpo bus routes include: 450 from Rideau Centre; 452 from South Keys; 454 from Terry Fox; 455 from Trim; and 456 from Barrhaven Centre. They will provide service to and from the FIFA games at Lansdowne as well as enhanced service on routes number 1 and 7 along Bank Street on game day.

Q. Is the bus free?
A. Yes. “On game days FIFA Women’s World Cup ticketholders have free access to transit service three hours before and three hours after games,” says Pat Scrimgeour, assistant general manager for OC Transpo. “People just (need to) show their printed event ticket to the operator when boarding the bus. We remind customers not to forget to keep their ticket for the return bus ride home.”

O-Train and Para Transpo service is also included with your ticket. (Para Transpo customers are asked to book their trips through the normal process.)

Q. What’s happening with parking?

A. Spectator parking is not available at Lansdowne. If you are planning to drive, organizers recommend taking advantage of the designated OC Transpo and STO free Park & Ride locations where ticket holders can take a free bus to Lansdowne. Also, direct shuttle service will be available from Ottawa City Hall and the E.Y. Centre near the Ottawa International Airport.

Q. How else can you get to a game?

A. When possible, spectators are encouraged to cycle and walk using the pathways along the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cyclists can take advantage of the free valet bike parking service located east of the Aberdeen Pavilion.

Q. Will there be any road closures?

A. No. The city says there are no planned road closures.

Q. What items can you bring in to the stadium?

A. Be prepared for a security check. Fans can bring in an empty reusable water bottle, a small purse or backpack.

Q. What can’t you bring in?

A. All food and drink products, animals (service dogs allowed), umbrellas, large bags and suitcases, large flags and banners with religious, political or offensive content, any advertising materials, and devices creating excessive noise.

Q. Do spectators have in-and-out privileges once they’ve entered the stadium?

A. No, once a spectator leaves they cannot get back in. Organizers say there is less than an hour between double-headers, which gives fan an opportunity to buy food and drink at the stadium, but they cannot leave between double-headers if they wish to see the second match.

Q. Is there a designated smoking area?

A. Yes, beside the PetSmart building at Gate 1.

Q. Are all the matches sold out?

A. FIFA is preparing for a sell-out every single match in Ottawa. They have confirmed the first match — a double-header on June 7 — is over 85 per cent sold out; and the quarter finals on June 26 only has single seats available. Nationally, the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 is expecting 1.5 million spectators.

Q. If you can’t get in to see a game, will there be a large screen outside the stadium?

A. No, organizers say the best way to see the game outside of the stadium is to tune into the matches on TSN or CTV at home or at a bar, restaurant, or contact one of the participating embassies.

Q. Will there be entertainment between matches?

A. “The fan zones at the stadiums will be operational during this time,” says FIFA spokesperson Khanh Be. “On pitch, after the 10 minutes which teams have to leave the field after the first match, maintenance will be performed on the field and watering if required. Warm ups will occur approximately 35 to 40 minutes before the second match followed by the pre-match ceremony and team walkout.”
