Jacques and Linda Patenaude, owners of Patenaude Martial Arts school in Ottawa, died Thursday in upstate New York when the motorcycle they were driving rear-ended a stationary vehicle.

The pair, 60 and 55 respectively, were riding a 2007 Harley Davidson on State Route 37 in Malone, New York, when it collided with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep, driven by 53-year-old Malone resident Jonathan Hutchins, was waiting to turn left from the highway. The Patenaudes were pronounced dead on the scene. Hutchins, meanwhile, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was expected to be fine.

The Patenaudes’ son Stephane, who runs Patenaude Martial Arts in Orléans, posted this notice on his Facebook page: “It is with a very heart that I announce the passing of our loving and amazing parents today in a motorcycle accident. They loved life, lived their lives to the fullest and touched so many along the way. We love you mom + pop and you will live on forever.”

With two dozen locations, from Toronto to Quebec City, Patenaude Martial Arts school was among the largest Fang Shen Do schools in Canada. It has approximately 4,000 students in Ottawa.
