A crash between a police cruiser and another vehicle has closed Heron Road in both directions at Riverside Drive.
Const. Chuck Benoit, a media relations officer with the Ottawa Police Service, said the call came in at 1:48 p.m.
“The officer has suffered minor injuries,” Benoit said.
The Ottawa Paramedic Service said it was a minor collision, with one man — not the police officer — transported to hospital.
The Ottawa police said on Twitter that it was a passenger in the second vehicle, not the driver, who was transported to hospital.
The Special Investigations Unit, which investigates serious injuries, allegations of sexual assault and death in incidents involving police officers has been notified of the crash, but a mandate has not been invoked.
It’s the second day in a row that a police cruiser has been in a crash. On Thursday, an officer in his 30s and woman, 52, were hospitalized following a collision at Huntmar Drive and Hazeldean Road.
