Kids were out in force in a number of communities across the capital Sunday selling sweet lemonade and tasty baked goods (in some locations) to raise money for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.
“So far there have been a lot of people. I like doing this, it’s fun,” said seven-year-old Talan Adams at a stand in St. Laurent.
The one-day fundraiser aims to get kids to build and host stands in their neighbourhoods in order to raise funds and awareness for cancer care in their local communities. This year, stands popped up in neighbourhoods around Orléans, Metcalfe, Stittsville, Barrhaven, Carp, Kanata, Westboro, and many more.
“People have been very generous and we’ve had all age groups. There have been young kids who have their own money and donate however small they could afford to. The jar that we’ve been putting the money into is bursting, so that’s very good,” added Roz Worldley, grandmother of three, who was helping out at the Richmond Avenue location.
The Lemon Brigade, as they’re called, has raised close to $120,000 in the past two years, according to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.
The lemonade stands were organized by the Cardel Homes Great Lemonade Standemonium and were presented by Palladium Insurance.
