Members of Parliament Elizabeth May, leader of the Green Party, Fin Donnelly, member for New Westminster–Coquitlam & Port Moody, and Wayne Easter, member from Malpeque PEI, shuck some oysters on the Sparks Street Mall as part of the second annual MP Oyster Shuck-Off, organized by the Canadian World Wildlife Foundation in support of the World Oceans Day.

Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Gail Shea judged the competition.

‘This year’s theme for World Oceans Day is ‘Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet’ which is appropriate given the progress we have made over this past year to preserve Canadian waters and aquatic ecosystems,’ she said in a statement.

@amitchelltweets As I shucked oysters w Gail Shea I told her how Vanc Isl growers have had to move seeding to Hawaii due to acidification.
