A Gatineau family that was convicted in 2010 on charges of cruelty to animals has been arrested again on similar charges.

On Monday, Gatineau police found a total of 17 cats, two dogs and a ferret during a raid at the home of Madeleine Fillion-Sauvé, 69, and her children Louise Fillion, 47, and Jacques-Paul Fillion, 42.

Gatineau police first noticed a large number of animals in the house during a domestic dispute call on June 5. Five cats and a ferret were removed from the home during that visit.

Upon further examination by animal control and the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the five cats were euthanized due to health problems and aggressiveness.

A search warrant led to the seizure of the remaining animals, whose statuses are not yet known. They have not yet been examined.

Each of the three are charged with one count each of animal cruelty and causing injury. They were due to appear in court Tuesday.

In June 2010, the family was charged and convicted after almost four dozen cats and dogs were found buried at the family home.
