The Ottawa region in summer is mad for festivals, but this weekend just might be the busiest, with at least half a dozen choices. There’s music, theatre, arts and crafts, pow wows and fireworks. Consider your choices:
TD Ottawa International Jazz Festival
When & where: The 35th festival opens Thursday, June 18 with a free concert by Kaleidoscope Orchestra from 4 to 6 p.m.. on the main stage at Confederation Park. There is a side stage across the street at Marion Dewar Plaza, and shows are also held at the NAC, with late-night jamming at Spin Kitchen & Lounge.
What: Friday, June 19 the mainstage show is by Lisa Fischer, an R & B singer best known as the long-time backup singer for the Rolling Stones. Saturday headliners are The Roots, Bruce Cockburn and Kenny Werner, while Sunday features trumpeter Chris Botti.

Glowfair
When & where: Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20, Bank Street from Slater Street to James Street
What: Billed as a celebration of light, music and creativity, this new festival on the block features lots of music — Kiesza, The New Deal, Jokers of the Scene, The New Deal, The Peptides are among the acts — and a range of wide range of other activities, from body-painting to street buskers, glow-in-the-dark yoga, a skateboard park, games for kids and a giant “silent disco” where dancers listen to DJ music on individual headphones.

Amnesia Rockfest
When & where: June 18-21, Montebello, QC
What: A festival for fans of heavy metal and rock. Party hearty with headliners that include Propagandhi on Thursday, June 18: Linkin Park, The Offspring and Ministry on Friday, June 19; and Slayer, System of a Down, and Pixies on Saturday, June 20

Ottawa Fringe Festival
When & where: Wednesday, June 17 to Sunday, June 28 at Arts Court, 2 Daly Ave., and multiple other locations downtown
What: The celebration of indie theatre features 56 companies this year, including many return performers who were popular in previous years. Plays are chosen by lottery, last about an hour and cost $12.

Summer Solstice Aboriginal Arts Festival
When & where: Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21 at Vincent Massey Park
What: This free Aboriginal Festival and Pow Wow competition features musical and dance acts, food, crafts and fashion, and kids entertainment. The mainstage show on Saturday June 20 includes Eagle and Hawk, DJ Shub and a pyrotechnics display.

The New Art Festival
When & where: Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21, Central Park in the Glebe
What: This is a juried festival featuring almost 200 visual artists.

Festival de la St. Jean
When & where: Saturday, June 20 at Richelieu-Vanier Community Centre, 300 Peres Blancs
What: A free celebration of the French-Canadian holiday, with musical performances including Celeste Levis and Mathieu Langevin, showcases, food, kids activities and bingo.
