Russell’s Jonathan Pitre will have more photos for his scrapbook when he travels to Las Vegas later this month for the NHL Awards ceremony. Pitre, 14, will be a special guest of the National Hockey League and the Ottawa Senators.
The team has three players vying for awards at next week’s ceremony: defenceman Erik Karlsson, forward Mark Stone and goaltender Andrew Hammond.
Retired Sens captain Daniel Alfredsson will present the award for rookie of the year, an award he won in 1996.
Pitre, who suffers from the painful skin disease epidermolysis bullosa has been warmly embraced by the hockey community in the eight months since he shared his story with the Citizen. He has been a frequent guest at Senators games, and a guest commentator on TSN and Sportsnet broadcasts.
NHL superstar Sidney Crosby even had a playoff suit made for him by his favourite Montreal tailor.
