Raised by a Canadian Farmer
The organization, which represents Canada’s number one meat and the 2,700 chicken farmers who raise it, is also promoting its new “Raised by a Canadian Farmer” chicken logo, a branding program showcasing the commitment of farmers to provide families with nutritious chicken raised to the highest standards of care, quality, and freshness.
This new brand includes a logo to help identify Canadian chicken at restaurants and in grocery stores across Canada that helps consumers make informed buying decisions about where their chicken comes from and how it’s raised.
The Great Canadian Chicken BBQ
The 23rd annual Great Canadian Chicken BBQ in the Chicken Corner in Major’s Hill Park will be open at 9 a.m. “The Preston Street Sandwich”, a recipe chosen by thousands of Facebook voters in a contest this past May, will be served to over 10,000 hungry visitors and offers a delicious herb-infused honey Dijon sauce as a topping.
The chicken, being supplied by Maple Leaf Prime, is being prepared once again by catering partners The Centurion Conference and Event Center.
But don’t just come for the chicken – the Executive Chef from the Centurion Conference Centre will take the stage several times with cooking demonstrations that are always a real crowd pleaser.
Supporting the Ottawa Food Bank
Fifty cents from the sale of each chicken item at the BBQ will support the Ottawa Food Bank. Chicken Farmers of Canada which has raised over $300,000 for the Ottawa Food Bank in the last 7 years.
“Chicken Farmers of Canada is absolutely committed to giving something back to the beautiful country that gives so much to us,” says Mike Dungate, Executive Director of CFC, “We are proud to support such an important and worthwhile cause.”
Meet an Olympic Swimming Medalist!
Chicken is the “official protein of swimming in Canada” and CFC continues to support Canadian swimmers from the national competitive level, right down to children learning how to swim.
Guests to Chicken Corner will also have a chance to meet and get an autograph with Canadian Olympic medal-winning swimmer Brent Hayden, who is joining us on Canada Day to represent Swimming Canada and its partnership with Chicken Farmers of Canada.
Hayden was Co-World Champion in the 100 m freestyle and won the bronze medal in that event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He is also the current reigning Commonwealth Games champion in both the 50 m and 100 m freestyle events and holds the Canadian records for the 50 m, 100 m, and 200 m freestyle, in both the short-course and long-course.
